I have to admit, I don’t understand this confession because all of the dresses in the show do that…because that’s what the dresses were meant to do XD What do they think corsets were for? To make the waist smaller and to accentuate their breasts…
*facepalm*
I always say to myself I won’t reblog confessions if I disagree but sometimes I just can’t help it XD
The clothes annoy me mostly in terms of historical inaccuracy, but of course it’s not meant to be accurate, it’s a fantasy after all. Just saying though, if they were wearing accurate Anglo-Saxon dress the women would look more like this:
Their breasts would certainly not be on show and they would wear head-dresses.
The kind of dresses that they wear on the show are more akin to much later medieval clothing, i.e. more fitted, with girdles and cinched in waists.
^ Fair point, didn’t think of that XD The historical inaccuracy doesn’t bother me tbh, mainly because like you say it’s a fantasy and because well, I don’t know, I just enjoy the show too much I guess =P
I did mean those sorts though seeing as they are usually the types that are used in a lot of programmes/movies =P
Still an odd confession though imo I mean why does it meantion Gwen but not Morgana? Or any of the other females? That’s what confuses me the most XD Plus, I love pretty much all the dresses they wear. The hatred that seems to come from this fandom really annoys me though =/
I think the “confessor” was saying it was sexist because it objectifies her, but come on, how often do we see the male characters topless? No one complains about that! XD I’d say that any objectification is divided equally between the male and female characters!
And I do like the costumes myself, even if they’re not accurate. Gwen’s dresses are very pretty. :)
Well if that was the case, shouldn’t they hate the other female’s dresses too? Gah confessor you confuse me =S =P
XD Totally agree with all of that =P
I have to agree with this confession, and it’s not about objectifying, because for me it’s more to do with her “new look” and the fact that her dresses are totally ridiculous for her to be wearing as a servant. When she has scenes out in the market or something she looks laughable because she’s the only commoner dressed like that and we have not even a one liner explaining how she could afford them! Not to mention the fact that they “prettied her up” for season 2 and all of a sudden that was when Arthur started to take interest in her. Shipping aside I just think it’s really shallow that this love story started to take place after a huge makeover that really wasn’t necessary because I loved her as she was. I actually asked Angel about this personally and she even admitted she wasn’t sure why it happened that way so… yeah :/
^ Oh yeah that bit I do agree with, in fact, all of that bit I agree with XD I think it’s just the confession itself is vague (cause obviously it’s difficult to have a detailed one) so it confused me. I just pretend the new dresses Gwen has are Morgana’s hand me downs seeing as that would have happened XD And I don’t know, maybe Arthur bought her some? It would be nice if it got explained =/
I have to agree with the “prettying up” bit. :/ For this series I kind of thought that her status had been somewhat elevated by her relationship with Arthur - she’s meant to be the future Queen, isn’t she? - so maybe she’s had nicer clothes bought for her, even though she’s still tending to the King and stuff. But she did have nicer dresses starting from Series 2 though when she was still a maid, so it doesn’t really work…
I still don’t even buy the Arthur/Gwen relationship anyway, not because of how anyone looks, but just because it came out of nowhere in Series 2. It was like the writers thought suddenly, “Shit! Arthur and Gwen are meant to get married some day, aren’t they? We better start writing this in, we forgot in Series 1…”
^ All of this. Totally and utterly agree and it’s a shame really =/
